Emma Stenton
Hi, I’m Emma - Grief Counsellor | End-of-Life Doula | Dementia & Caregiver Support
I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, Grief Counsellor, and Death Doula supporting individuals and families navigating dementia, new medical diagnoses, caregiver burnout, chronic illness, anticipatory grief, and end-of-life transitions.
My work began at the bedside as a care aide and death doula in long-term care. I supported individuals living with dementia, families adjusting to cognitive decline, and loved ones in the final stages of life. I’ve sat vigil, supported care partners through exhaustion and guilt, and remained steady in the quiet moments when words were no longer enough.
I specialize in dementia support, counselling after a new diagnosis, caregiver stress and burnout, life-limiting illness, and complicated or anticipatory grief. Receiving a diagnosis — whether dementia, chronic illness, or terminal — can bring shock, fear, identity shifts, and deep uncertainty. You don’t have to navigate that alone.
My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing from narrative, existential, CBT, and solution-focused therapies. I understand how grief and chronic stress impact the nervous system, relationships, and sense of self. Alongside my professional training, I’ve personally navigated chronic illness and invisible grief, which allows me to hold space with both clinical skill and lived empathy.
I support:
Individuals living with dementia
Those adjusting to a new or life-limiting diagnosis
Caregivers experiencing burnout
Families navigating anticipatory grief
Those grieving a death or significant life transition
