Carla Carvalho

Hi, I’m Carla Carvalho

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a deep passion for supporting people in their emotional and cognitive development. Originally from Brazil, I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s in Developmental Psychology. My work focuses on how our thoughts and emotions influence our everyday lives—especially for those facing learning, social, or emotional challenges.

In addition to my private practice, I’m also a school counsellor at a K–12 school for neurodivergent students. I love being part of a community that embraces diversity and difference. I specialize in working with families of autistic teens and youth, offering support and strategies to help navigate the unique paths they walk.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in Canada, England, and Brazil—across schools, research settings, and international projects. One of the highlights was contributing to a large educational research initiative led by the Government of Bahia in Brazil, in partnership with ICELP from Israel.

I consider myself a natural problem solver and enjoy the challenge of finding realistic, creative solutions to complex situations. My approach blends empathy, curiosity, and a good dose of creativity. I use a variety of tools—mindfulness, games, arts and crafts, and especially visual supports—to communicate and connect at whatever level best suits the individuals I work with.

Bringing together my clinical background, international experience and personal context as a wife and mother allows me to offer a holistic, compassionate and personalized perspective. At the heart of everything I do is a genuine desire to help people feel seen, understood, and empowered.
